Michael J. Bartlett - Biography
Michael J. “Mike” Bartlett, a native Californian, has been a resident of Orange County for 34 years. A graduate of the University of Southern California and Pepperdine School of Law, Mike is a member of both the California and Washington bar.
Mike has been married to Lisa Bartlett, Dana Point’s Mayor Pro Tem, for 27 years. Lisa and Mike enjoy a family legacy of public service dating back to the time of Mike’s great-great uncle, Washington Bartlett, who was a California State Senator and Mayor of San Francisco, before his election in 1897 as the 16th Governor of California. Mike’s great-grandfather was also the Mayor of San Francisco.
The long-time city attorney of San Clemente, Mike also served as deputy city attorney for Laguna Beach and Stanton. Mike’s current practice in real estate and corporate law is complimented by his extensive trial attorney experience.
As a strong law enforcement advocate, Mike will protect crime victims and their rights in the courtroom. As a judge, Mike will follow the law to the letter. He supports the death penalty and the collection of DNA samples from all felons. Mike is a supporter of Crimesurvivors® and their efforts to help to bring justice to victims and surviving families of violent crimes.
Mike is honored to be endorsed by the Parents of Los Angeles Sheriffs Deputy David March, for his compassion and advocacy with crime-victims.
As an experienced City Attorney, Mike has worked closely with Police and OCSD Deputies in the enforcement of city codes, municipal laws, criminal filings and injunctions that assured residents of their safety and quality of life in their neighborhoods.
Mike has the support of many active and retired judges, law enforcement, lawyers, civic leaders and elected officials across Orange County. As a former public servant and respected civil attorney for 32 years, Mike will bring a wealth of legal knowledge and broad experience to the bench. He will also bring his considerable civil trial experience to the court to assure all citizens will have “equal justice under the law”.
